This collection of papers is the reflection of the third DPRN meeting on southern Africa, that was held on 13 December 2007 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In line with the objectives of the DPRN (Development Policy Review Network), an important purpose of the three consecutive southern Africa regional expert meetings was to facilitate and stimulate an exchange of information and experiences among a wide variety of experts on southern Africa, including researchers, policymakers and practitioners from academic institutions, ministries, and co-financing organisations as well as embassies, consultants and representatives from the region in the Netherlands and South Africa. The third DPRN Meeting in 2007 aimed at creating a tangible result and a fitting finale to the series of three meetings in the form of a discussion of papers, working towards a publication on the theme of ´Governance and development in southern Africa´. The six papers assembled in this volume have been written by academics, policy makers and practitioners and cover various aspects of governance and development: Public-private partnerships in rural development; Indigenous Knowledge Systems and their appreciation; The crisis of expectation witnessed in post-apartheid South Africa; land and agrarian reform in South Africa; Democracy and responsiveness in civil domains and arenas in Zimbabwe; and Donors and Governance in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The full report of the third DPRN meeting on Southern Africa is included as an Appendix. Bestel/Order |
